The Western Adventure begins…. Heading out the driveway
We headed west in our RV on Thursday, June 5th. We arrived at Nancy & Gil’s on Saturday, June 7th and had a wonderful visit with them and their family. Our niece Kelly and nephew Chris and their families dropped by late afternoon. We met our newest great niece – 3 week old Carley Hart. She slept through most of our visit but is a beautiful baby girl.

Sunday we headed to wine country with Nancy and Gil and enjoyed the ride through rolling hills and farmland near the Missouri River. We stopped by their favorite winery, Wine Country Gardens in Defiance, MO and had lunch outside in the gardens. We were surrounded by large hosta and flowers.

Daniel Boone built cabins on each of his kid’s property (Daniel had 10 children, 7 of whom lived to marry and give him 68 grandchildren!) We toured Daniel Boone’s home in Defiance, MO. It is classic Georgian style architecture and took about 7 years to complete. The walls are two and a half feet thick, complete with rifle ports, and made of Missouri blue limestone, quarried locally. The home overlooks the village, containing over a dozen buildings that were moved here from within 50 miles of this site. Each building dates back to the 1800’s and represents what a pioneer village may have been like during this time.

Me too, Sherry. The first night we were here the tornado sirens went off twice… I really dislike this kind of weather when I’m traveling.
